How Reviews Are Verified
We aggregate reviews from Google Business Profile, Yelp, BBB, and Angi. Reviews are weighted by recency — a review from the past 6 months carries more weight than one from 3 years ago. We also factor in review volume, response rate from the business, and whether patterns suggest inauthentic reviews. Businesses cannot pay to improve their review score.
Licensing & Credential Verification
We verify each company's contractor license directly with the relevant state licensing board. We confirm the license is active, matches the business entity, and covers the trade classification. Our editors also review business credentials, certifications, and trade affiliations to confirm the company is legitimately operating in the market.
Complaint & Dispute Record
We check for unresolved complaints with the Better Business Bureau, CSLB disciplinary actions, and state consumer protection agency records. A clean record earns the full 10 points. Unresolved complaints result in point deductions proportional to their severity and recency.
Independence & Integrity
Chuck's Picks operates independently. Paid placements and advertising do not influence scoring or award decisions. Companies cannot pay to receive an award or improve their score. Our directory listings and award winners are determined solely by our 100-point methodology.
